This wonderful
example of engineering from a bygone age is still operating and
open for you to visit on regular open days from March to October.
The 2008 open days are given in a
separate page. On open days the Middleton engine operates on
compressed air.
The site is preserved and operated by the Middleton Top Engine & Leawood Pump Group, volunteers supported by Derbyshire County Council.
The Middleton Top Engine & Leawood Pump Group also look after the Leawood Pump which stands beside the Cromford Canal near Cromford. This is only a short distance from the Middleton Top Engine and can easily be visited on the same day.
